Privacy Policy

The short version: Truth or Dare is built to be used without an account and without signing up - that's a feature, not just a privacy nicety. Your Favorites, History and Settings never leave your device. The only data that leaves is the minimum needed to show ads that keep the app free and to tell us when the app crashes. Uninstalling removes everything the app knows about you.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

None. The app has no registration, login, profile, or account system.

1.2 Information stored only on your device

The app saves your Settings (sound, haptics, glow, Family-Friendly Filter), Favorites, History, and current session state locally. We do not receive or have access to this data - it stays on your phone unless you back up your device through your own OS-level backup (iCloud / Google Backup), which is between you and Apple/Google, not us.

1.3 Information collected automatically

  • Advertising. The app shows ads through Google AdMob, which automatically processes a device advertising identifier (only if available and permitted by your settings), general device information (model, OS version, language, general region from IP), and ad-interaction data (impressions, clicks) for fraud prevention and measurement. By default the app requests non-personalized ads only - we do not ask for tracking permission (Apple's App Tracking Transparency).
  • Crash & error reporting. The app uses Sentry to capture crash reports (device model, OS version, app version, and a technical stack trace) if something breaks. This does not include your Favorites or History as a deliberate log.
  • Analytics (planned, not active at initial launch). We may later add basic, aggregated product analytics via a provider such as Firebase Analytics or PostHog. This section will be updated with the specific provider before that is turned on, and any such analytics will be aggregate usage data, not tied to your identity.

1.4 What we never collect

Your name, email, phone, or address; photos, contacts, microphone, camera, or location (the app never requests these permissions); or the actual answers you give to a Truth or Dare.

2. How we use information

Only to: (a) serve and measure advertising that keeps the app free; (b) diagnose and fix crashes; and (c), once active, understand aggregate feature usage. We do not sell your personal information.

Where GDPR / UK GDPR applies, our legal bases are legitimate interest for core functionality and crash diagnostics, and consent for advertising-related processing, collected through a Google-certified consent prompt shown before any ad-related processing begins in those regions.

4. Children's privacy

This app is not directed at children and is not part of Apple's "Made for Kids" or Google Play's Designed for Families programs. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age defined by applicable law. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will address it.

6. Advertising & your choices

  • Default: non-personalized ads only - no ATT prompt on iOS, no cross-app tracking.
  • EEA / UK / Switzerland: a certified consent message (Google UMP) is shown before any ad-related processing; you can change your choice anytime in Settings.
  • Reset / limit your ad identifier from your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking / Apple Advertising; Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads).
  • California: see §8; we enable AdMob's Restricted Data Processing for users detected in California.

7. Data retention

On-device data is kept until you clear it (Reset Session / Clear History / un-star a Favorite) or uninstall, which removes all of it immediately. Crash reports and any aggregate analytics are retained by our providers per their own schedules and are not linked to any account.

8. Your rights

  • GDPR / UK (EEA, UK, Switzerland): access, correct, delete, restrict, object, and portability; and complaint to your supervisory authority. Because the app stores almost everything locally with no server-side account, "deletion" is usually as simple as uninstalling; for anything held by our processors, contact us or them directly.
  • CCPA / CPRA (California): know, delete, correct, and opt out of "sale" / "sharing." We do not sell personal information for money. To limit ad-related sharing, use the ad settings in §6; we additionally enable AdMob's Restricted Data Processing for California.
  • All other regions: the same practical protections apply - no accounts, local-first storage, minimal third-party sharing.

9. Data security

We rely on the security of the platforms we build on (Apple, Google, AdMob, Sentry) and standard HTTPS / TLS encryption in transit. No method is 100% secure, but a local-first, no-account architecture minimizes what could ever be exposed.

10. International data transfers

Third-party services may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under their own safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses). We do not operate our own servers that store personal data.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes update the "Last updated" date and, where required, we provide additional notice.
